The Jan 2 occurrence is located approximately 4.5 kilometres north of Shedin Peak and 82 kilometres north of Hazelton (#302 on Map 69-1).
Regionally, the area is underlain by clastic sedimentary rocks of the Middle Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group, which have been intruded by granodiorite of the Upper Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite. Hornfels and calc-silicate skarn is developed in the contact area of the intrusion.
Locally, a copper-molybdenum showing is reported (#302 on Map 69-1).
In 2014, a grab sample (RX399271) from a 2-metre wide quartz vein with clots and stringers of pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite, taken approximately 2.3 kilometres to the southwest of the plotted location of the occurrence, yielded 0.078 gram per tonne gold, 5.1 grams per tonne silver, 0.075 per cent molybdenum and 0.167 per cent copper, whereas a nearby sample (RX399272) of quartz-pyrite-molybdenum-chalcopyrite-potassium feldspar veining and stockworks, up to 20 centimetres thick, in potassium feldspar and biotite-altered monzonite with malachite and azurite staining yielded 0.144 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 35139).
Work History
The area was covered by the Atna and Mad group of claims and was optioned by Canadian Superior Exploration Limited in 1967. Trenching was reported to have been performed at this time.
In 2013 and 2014, Vale Exploration Canada Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and a 3278.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the S2 property. In 2017, an induced polarization and magnetotellurics survey was completed on the property.
